John McAfee
On June 23, 2021, 75-year-old US citizen John McAfee, a software developer, was found dead in his prison cell in Barcelona, Spain, where he was awaiting extradition to the United States on a tax evasion case. Official claims that he killed himself, but McAfee repeatedly stated that he would never have committed suicide.
In 2009, McAfee moved from the United States to Belize, a state in South America, but was forced to flee from there because, according to him, he received documents that linked the government of Belize to organized crime. After returning to the United States in October 2020, he was charged with tax evasion, as he allegedly received millions of dollars through transactions related to cryptocurrencies between 2014 and 2018. At the end of June 2018, he survived an assassination attempt. Someone poisoned something that he took inside. After this incident, McAfee repeatedly reported that he found traces of the presence of strangers near his house.
In 2019, a man published a post on a social network in which he claimed that “top officials” allegedly hunted him, persecuting him for political reasons, and just three days before his death, his wife published a video claiming that the US government would like him to “die in prison”.
