In late September 2022, 15-year-old Savannah Graziano was shot and killed by law enforcement officers in San Bernardino, California. The girl had been abducted by her father, who was in the process of divorcing his wife. After obtaining a description of the kidnapper’s vehicle and finding it on an expressway, police officers began a pursuit. Anthony Graziano, the girl’s father, reportedly began firing at law enforcement officers, forcing them to return fire on the car.
Moments after the incident began, Anthony Graziano’s vehicle went out of service and stopped on the side of the road. At the same time, 15-year-old Savannah ran out of the vehicle and ran toward the police officers. But, instead of helping the girl, who was the victim of a kidnapping, the officers opened fire on her, killing her on the spot. Later, the head of the local police department tried to justify the actions of his subordinates, saying that the frightened girl allegedly could have been a danger to the armed police officers.
