Winston Augustine

Winston Augustine, 43, was found hanging in his cell in the prison in West London, UK.

In May 2018 he was transferred to a segregation unit because according to the prison staff he was ‘non-compliant.’ Inquest found he did not receive food and medication for several days. He suffered from chronic pain caused by kidney stones.

Prison officers told the inquest that they did not consider it safe to open Augustine’s cell door to provide him with food or medication because he was ‘non-compliant.’ Experts consider Augustine was found dead 4-5 hours after his death.

On May 21, 2021, a court hearing was held in this case. Augustine’s family believes that the actions of prison officers lead to his death.
