Taoufik Belrhitri
Taoufik Belrhitri, 40, died in prison of Perpignan, France, on October 18, 2020.
His family found out about it only a few days after his death from a prisoner who said that there had been a murder in the prison and that he did not know who had died. The Belrhitri family called the prison, but they were told that he was fine.
23 days after his death, the city administration officially informed the family of his death. According to prison officials, Belrhitri died of asphyxiation after he choked on a piece of meat.
The family of Belrhitri does not believe in it because there were bruises on his face and he had a swollen eyelid. His family believes that he was beaten in the prison. The family also finds it odd that the prison hid Belrhitri’s death and that the autopsy was not carried out for several months. In April 2021 prosecutors announced an autopsy of Belrkhitri.
