Steven Nguyen
On June 5, 2021, Steven Nguyen was shot and killed by a police officer in Edmonton, Canada.
Police were responding a call about a man with a knife. When the officers found Nguyen, a confrontation occurred between them. One of the officers shot at Nguyen. The officers said they provided him first aid until the paramedics arrived. No knife was found at the scene.
Nguyen’s family said he was just walking down the street when he met police officers. His parents said they heard several shots outside while they were at home.
The police launched an investigation into the case. Nguyen’s family want to find out what happened on the day of his death.

“It’s crushing… It’s heartbreaking. We need justice for Steven. We want to know exactly what happened. We want answers,” Nguyen’s sister-in-law Tara Halls said.

“(We were) surprised to hear of any type of weapon at all,” Halls said, adding that Nguyen, the father of a two-year-old girl, died very close to where his parents live.

CASE STATUS:
The initiative group has requested the clarification from Attorney General of Canada David T. Lametti and Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. The initiative group believes it is important to fight against police brutality and, if necessary, will provide legal and financial assistance to the family of the victim.
