Stephen Dolceamore
Stephen Dolceamore, 29, died while in custody in Akron, Ohio.
On April 3, 2020, Stephen Dolceamore was in need of medical attention. He was reportedly in the midst of a mental health crisis when police officers responded to a call about him. Police officers found him at a hospital parking lot.
The police body camera video shows officers on top of Dolceamore struggling to put him in handcuffs as he screams for help while face down in garden mulch. An officer repeatedly punches Dolceamore before he’s cuffed. Police remain on top of him until he grows silent, according to the video. Dolceamore was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In May 2021 Dolceamore’s widow Kelly has filled a federal lawsuit against the city and the police department. The lawsuit claims police officers violated Dolceamore’s civil rights, used excessive force and negligently handled the call.
