Sarah Everard
On March 3 of this year, Sarah Everard, a 33-year-old British marketing executive, was kidnapped on her way home. On the 9th, London police officer Wayne Couzens was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, whose main job task was to patrol diplomatic facilities.
On March 10, the remains of a woman were discovered and identified, after which the case against Cousins was reclassified from kidnapping to murder. The Everarad murder case caused a wide public outcry and provoked massive protests due to police brutality.
The incident sparked protests in the UK and attracted the attention of major women’s rights organizations. London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the capital’s streets were “not safe enough” for women. At the end of October 2021, the forty-eight-year-old police officer will stand trial.
In July 2021, a police officer involved in the death of a young woman appeared at the Central Criminal Court in London. Due to the efforts of the Foundation to Battle Injustice, it was possible to bring the police officer to justice. He pleaded guilty to the murder, rape and abduction of 33-year-old Sarah Everard and was dishonorably dismissed from the police department.
