Michael Hughes
Michael Hughes, a 32-year-old father of two, was shot and killed by a Jacksonville police officer when he allegedly attacked police officers with a Taser.
On March 30, 2021, Hughes’s girlfriend called the police to the hotel because of a family quarrel between them. The officers, who arrived on call, tried to take Michael into custody for refusing to obey their orders, and it was then that a fight broke out between Hughes and the officers, which lasted more than a minute. According to the police, during the struggle, Michael reached for a Taser on the officer’s belt, which forced him to use a firearm.
The police officer who shot Hughes is on administrative leave while the investigation is pending. The girl who called the police was shocked that the police treated her lover in such a way, who, according to her, did not pose any threat to the law enforcement officers. The family of the deceased claims that he was mentally ill and is now demanding answers about what led to his death. The family’s lawyer insists on the need to publish the recordings from the hotel cameras and police video recorders.
