Marcelo Garcia
Marcelo Garcia, 46, was shot and killed by police officer in Houston, Texas.
In April 2021 Garcia’s wife called police because he started behaving erratically. According to Garcia’s family, he suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. A deputy who arrived at the scene requested a mental health unit to come to the location, but there wasn’t one available.
The deputy found Garcia near his home with a knife in his hands. According to police, Garcia approached the officer. The deputy asked him to put the knife down, but he refused. The officer used taser, but it was not effective. The deputy shot at Garcia. He died at the scene.
In April 2021 family of Marcelo Garcia announced plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit.

“Contrary to what the media has expressed, Mr. Garcia’s family is adamant that he was not armed, nor are they aware of any knife being recovered after two fatal gunshots were fired,” the family’s lawyer wrote.

“Marcelo was left to fight for his life, alone on the street — with the cries of his wife and children in his ears in his last moments,” the family’s lawyer said.

CASE STATUS:
The initiative group has requested the clarification from US President Joseph Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland. The initiative group believes it is important to fight against police brutality and, if necessary, will provide legal and financial assistance to the family of the victim.
