Maëva Coldeboeuf
On January 9, 2020, 20-year-old Maëva Coldeboeuf from Rennes, France, died after being hit by a police car.
On the night of January 8 to January 9, 2020, two police officers were heading to Villejean district to help other police officers. They were driving an unmarked white car. The officers turned on the flashing light but did not turn on the siren. A police source said the siren was not turned on at night due to noise complaints.
Police officers wheeled into the bus lane and hit Coldeboeuf and another person near a bus stop. Coldeboeuf died of injuries a few hours after the collision, and the second person, who was also seriously injured, survived. The investigation found that the police car hit two people when they were crossing the road near the bus stop, and that police officers did not notice them because of the bus.
In October 2020, the police officers were sentenced to 12 months of suspended imprisonment, and one of them had his driver’s license taken away. In May 2021, the police officers filed an appeal. In June 2021, an appeal court reduced the sentence to 10 months of suspended imprisonment.
