Latisha Robertson
In September 2021, the Foundation to Battle Injustice received an anonymous email with an attached video of bullying in Harris County Jail, Houston, Texas. The footage shows jail staff brutally beating a black woman Latisha Robertson, allegedly who had allegedly outraged that prisoners had to eat only rice and beans.
According to commentary on the video, the incident took place in December 2020. The informant said that as soon as the woman asked her question to the prison guard, he answered her in a rude and insulting manner: “Do you want to have chicken served?”, hinting at her African American origin. Latisha did not remain silent, she accused the guard of racism and violation of her rights. The prison guards, outraged by such impudence shown by a black prisoner, took her out of the cell, grabbed her by hair and brought her to the punishment cell, where they began to beat her with battons.
A 36-second video made by an eyewitness shows two prison guards beating Robertson, who is on her knees. She begs them to stop, screams in pain, calls for help and claims that she has done nothing wrong. She is seen trying to protect herself, trying to cover herself from punches.
Human rights defenders of the Foundation tried to contact the victim, however, all information about Latisha Robertson on website of the Harris County Jail was deleted.
