CASE №00202
NAME: Jeremy Mardis
COUNTRY: USA
RIGHTS VIOLATION: Police arbitrariness
YEAR: 2022
CASE INFORMATION:

Jeremy Mardis, 6, was shot and killed by police in Marksville, Louisiana.

Father of Mardis was driving a car. The boy was a passenger in the front seat. Police tried to pull the car over. The driver refused to stop the car, so police started a chase.

The police called for backup, and two more police officers came. The chase ended and one of the officers fired eighteen rounds into the vehicle. Mardis died at the scene. His father was injured.

Family of Mardis won a lawsuit against the city and the police department, however, in June 2021, the officer involved in the murder of Mardis was released early after spending less than two years behind bars.
