Dillon Taylor
Dillon Taylor, 20, was shot and killed by police officer in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In August 2014 police were responding a call about an armed man who was later identified as Taylor. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Taylor and his cousin. One of the officers drew his arm and told them to put up their hands.
According to police, Taylor walked away, turned back and pulled his hands from a waistband. The officer shot and killed him. The officer said he thought Taylor had a gun. Taylor died at a hospital of his injures.
Taylor’s aunt sued the city and the police department, accusing them of using excessive force. In 2019, federal judge dismissed her wrongful death lawsuit, and in October 2021, an appeals court sided with the federal judge who dismissed the lawsuit.
