Cameron Johnson
Cameron Johnson, 29, was shot and killed by police in Malaekahana, Hawaii, in January 2017.
According to the police, Johnson was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle when an officer tried to stop him. The police officer wrote in his report that Johnson drove his car into patrol car. He hit the police car and the officer opened fire.
The officer’s version differs from the version of the witnesses of the incident. According to eyewitnesses, Johnson stopped the car, but a few minutes later, Johnson’s car, parked on a slope, began to roll back. The officer fired 5 rounds and fatally injured Johnson.
Johnson’s family sued the city and the police department for using excessive force, and in June 2021 the city council voted to pay $1 million for the family of the deceased.
MASS MEDIA ABOUT THE CASE:
“There’s all kinds of witnesses,” Michael Green, the attorney representing Johnson’s estate said. “They were watching this officer walk next to the car and shooting.”
