Blane Land
Blane Land, 62, died in May 2017 when he was hit by a patrol car driven by a Jacksonville police officer.
Police say Officer Timothy James was responding to a robbery call at a high rate of speed when Blane Land ran out in front of the police car. Land died at the scene.
Three hours after he was struck and killed the chief of investigations made statements hinting the crash victim might have been homeless and potentially suicidal. A video of the incident contests the police version of events.
In April 2021 Land’s family has sued the city, saying his civil rights were violated and that a $314,687 estimated bill for police records broke state law.
