CASE INFORMATION:

In April 2017, 19-year-old Damarius Butts was shot and killed by police officers in Seattle, Washington.

The police received a report that Butts had allegedly robbed a convenience store. The police noticed Butts and started a chase, and a few minutes later they cornered him and fired 18 shots at him.

According to the police, Butts allegedly pulled out a gun and shot at one of the officers who heard a soft pop and felt something hit his bulletproof vest. After that, officers started firing at Butts. He died at the scene from his injuries.

In March 2022, the jury found that officers used appropriate force.

The initiative group has requested the clarification from US President Joseph Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland. The initiative group believes it is important to fight against police brutality and, if necessary, will provide legal and financial assistance to the family of the victim.
