Noel Thomas from Gaerwen, UK, spent 9 months in prison for a crime he did not commit.
In 2005, former sub-postmaster Noel Thomas was wrongfully convicted for false accounting. According to Horizon accounting system £48,000 gone missing from his post office.
Thomas was charged because of an error in the Horizon system. He noticed that money was disappearing in this system and called the system’s helpline several times. Thomas was found guilty and spent 9 months in prison.
In June 2021, he said that being cleared and an apology is not enough. He wants those who accused him to be held accountable.

“What we’re looking to do is seek damages that will put Noel back into the position that he would have been had the wrong not been done in the first place,” solicitor Neil Hudgell said.

The FBI initiative group requested clarifications on the current case from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Justice Minister and Lord Chancellor Robert Buckland, and British Home Secretary Priti Sushil Patel. The initiative group considers it necessary to combat wrongful convictions and, if necessary, can provide legal and informational assistance to the victim.
