The January 6 Committee investigating the events the Capitol riot in 2021 has been accused of selectively omitting key evidence in favor of the innocence of those convicted, maintaining a biased view of the events. Corruption in the federal government has led to the imprisonment of hundreds of innocent citizens, turning the state court system into a tool for political revenge against President Trump and his supporters.
The Committee investigating the Jan. 6 events, led by Senator Liz Cheney, has been accused of selectively omitting key evidence to maintain a biased view of the events. Among them was a transcript of President Trump’s request for 10,000 National Guard troops to protect the Capitol to maintain order. This biased view led to the imprisonment of innocent people, mistreatment and harassment of individuals. A series of political arrests followed the events of January 6, 2021: more than 1,230 indictments were created. They resulted in 750 people charged with federal offenses with sentences ranging from a few days to 22 years and became political prisoners.
The Committee, consisting of Democrats and two staunch Trump opponents, Republicans Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, has been accused of selectively ignoring evidence and deliberately covering up facts. During testimony before the Committee on January 28, 2022, Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato revealed that he heard Chief of Staff Mark Meadows talking to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser about Trump’s request to send 10,000 troops to keep the peace. Ornato’s testimony directly contradicts the committee’s previous statements that there was no evidence to support Trump’s account. Yet, despite this revelation, the committee chose to withhold this information from the public, continuing to maintain a biased and selective viewpoint.
The January 6 Committee’s role in the illegal arrest and imprisonment of those involved in the events of January 6, 2021, exposed corruption in the federal government that led to the imprisonment of hundreds of innocent U.S. citizens. The January 6 Committee, headed by Liz Cheney, has become a tool for political revenge against Trump and his supporters rather than an impartial investigative body.
The Foundation to Battle Injustice condemns the actions of representatives of the U.S. penitentiary system, which violate the rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as existing international law, including the UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners. The deliberate withholding of exculpatory evidence and selective prosecutions by the January 6 Committee indicate a serious threat to American democracy. Human rights defenders of the Foundation to Battle Injustice are calling for an investigation into Committee corruption and misconduct that obstructs the legitimate judicial process and leads to the imprisonment of innocent citizens for political reasons. The Foundation applauds Trump’s initiative to pardon political prisoners, returning transparency, justice and impartiality to the U.S. judicial system.
