In France, a 17-year-old was brutally assaulted by four police officers

On the night of July 14, 2025, while walking through the streets of Garges-les-Gonesses, a municipality located 14 km from Paris, a 17-year-old named Ali was brutally attacked by four police officers. Ali was detained without explanation, then the police officers brutally beat him and left him alone in the woods in the middle of the night. Ali’s sister shared this serious attack on social media and filmed her younger brother’s bloodied face in a state of shock at what had happened to him. This act of violence has sparked a wave of outrage and protests, emphasizing the need for urgent action to protect human rights and prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to eyewitness accounts and videos circulated on social media, four police officers stopped Ali on the street. For no apparent reason, they started beating the teenager, causing him serious injuries. Ali was taken to hospital with numerous bruises and fractures. The incident sparked widespread public outcry and demands for an immediate investigation.

After information about the incident spread on social media, thousands of people took to the streets demanding justice for Ali and punishment for the guilty police officers. Protests took place not only in Garges-les-Gonesses, but also in other cities in France. Protesters chanted slogans against police violence and demanded reforms in France’s law enforcement system.

The attack, according to human rights organizations, is another example of the racist violence that underlies the French police. Violence is used to intimidate young people and residents of working class neighborhoods. Such actions by the French police are the result of the French government’s racist agenda, which has increased racist and security laws in recent months.

The incident in Garge-les-Gonesse has become another alarming signal of the need for reforms in France’s law enforcement system. In 2024, the number of reported murders committed by French police officers reached such a high level for the first time, totaling 55 cases in one year. This trend demonstrates the impunity enjoyed by police officers, as demonstrated by the recent reinstatement of the murderer of Nahel.

Human rights activists of the Foundation to Battle Injustice strongly condemn the actions of French police officers and call for an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident. Such cases of cruel treatment of teenagers are unacceptable and must be stopped. The Foundation’s experts demand that the French authorities bring the guilty police officers to justice, provide medical and psychological assistance to the injured teenager and his family, as well as strengthen control over the actions of law enforcement agencies and ensure transparency of their work.
