Alex Fisher

Alex Fisher, a 27-year-old Canadian, was beaten by a Surrey County police officer who later told him he was mistaken for a robbery suspect. In the early morning of Monday, February 8, he was cycling down a street near the city center when he saw a police car sounding sirens. Fischer slowed down to talk to the officer and find out what he needed. The officer did not give him the opportunity to utter a word, but simply jumped out of the car and threw him off the bike. Alex was hit several times in the face.

The officer later said that he mistook Fischer for a robbery suspect. That being said, the only matching details were the presence of a bicycle and a dark sweatshirt. A media relations officer for the Surrey Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Fischer was injured when he fell to the ground from a bicycle, although photos taken after the incident by Fischer show that injuries to his face and body were sustained by blows. The police also claim that Alex did not stop at the first request of the officer and resisted when he tried to handcuff him.

Supervisors will contact Fischer to discuss the incident while the circumstances of his arrest are pending. According to Alex’s acquaintances, the lawyer he hired recommended that the victim refrain from making any comments until the trial.

Devin Carter

On April 2, 2021, the family of 17-year-old Devin Carter filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Stockton, California, and the four police officers who “brutally beat” the teenager during his 2020 arrest. The officers reportedly beat and kicked Carter in the face and back, while shouting curses at him.

A lawsuit filed by Carter in early April indicated that Carter was driving to his father when police officers chased him in an attempt to stop him and issue a speeding ticket. Initially, the teenager did not notice that a police car was after him, it follows from the case file.

Knowing the attitude of the police towards African Americans, Carter did not immediately stop and decided to drive to his father’s house, which was nearby. He failed to do this – a police car rammed Devin’s transport, forcing him to pull over to the side of the road and stop. After that, the police attacked Carter’s car, pulled him out of the car and beat him.

The incident resulted in the dismissal of two officers. The four police officers involved in the incident are under criminal investigation by the district attorney. The city community demanded that the names and service information of the police officers present at the incident be made public, including those who did not take part in the beating of Carter, but who were nearby and did not take action to pacify their colleagues.

In July 2021, Chief promised to work with the board of community members. “The City Manager’s Review Board, which began its examination of the Stockton Police Department’s use of force data in October of 2020, will continue their analysis in order to make meaningful changes to policing in Stockton,” he said.

Michael Wright

African-American Michael Wright is set to sue San Antonio police for a failed 2019 investigation by the San Antonio Police Department that resulted in a Michael being arrested and unfairly accused of serious domestic violence. The police officers investigating the incident arrested the criminal’s full namesake, thereby imprisoning an innocent person.

The incident showed the unprecedented irresponsibility of the investigation – even the dates of birth of the namesakes do not coincide. Michael Wright, who was undeservedly sent to serve his sentence, was born on October 24, 1986, while the real criminal was born on October 15, 1982.

Both the district attorney and the local police chief declined to comment on the incident, and a police department spokesman said there was no information to release on the case.

Now Wright wants to recover financial compensation for moral damage from the perpetrators and, if possible, punish those responsible. According to human rights attorneys working on the Wright case, the dispute can be resolved out of court. However, judging by the lack of progress in negotiations between the parties, the case is likely to go to court.
